Computer Recycling Norwich
Free, certified computer recycling for organisations across Norwich and Norfolk, with secure data destruction, a certificate for every device, and nothing sent to landfill.
Computer Waste Recycling (CWR) clears redundant IT for businesses, research institutes, schools, charities and public sector teams right across the county. We collect from your premises free of charge, destroy the data to certified standards, and refurbish or recycle whatever is left.
There’s no minimum quantity, your kit doesn’t need to be working, and being out in Norfolk makes no difference to us. Plenty of providers quietly avoid the rural east. We don’t.

The Data Risk Most Offices Forget | Printers and Copiers
Everyone remembers the laptops. Almost nobody remembers the photocopier in the corner.
Most modern office printers and multifunction devices contain an internal hard drive or solid state storage, and they quietly keep images of what has passed through them. Payroll runs, contracts, patient letters, invoices, scanned passports. When that machine goes back to the leasing company or off to a scrap dealer, the data usually goes with it.
We deal with it properly:
- Drives removed and destroyed from printers, copiers and multifunction devices
- Certificates issued for those drives exactly as for a laptop or server
- Large floor-standing units collected alongside the rest of your IT, so it’s one job not two
- Lease returns handled correctly, with storage dealt with before the machine leaves your building
- Scanners, franking machines and other overlooked kit checked for storage as well
It’s a genuine gap in a lot of organisations’ compliance, and it’s an easy one to close.
What We Collect
If it plugs in, stores data or lives in a server room, we can almost certainly take it, working or not:
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Computers and PCs | Desktops, towers, all-in-ones, workstations, thin clients |
| Laptops and Apple | Business laptops, Chromebooks, MacBooks, iMacs |
| Servers and storage | Rack, tower and blade servers, hard drives, SSDs, RAID arrays, NAS and SAN, tapes |
| Print and imaging | Printers, photocopiers, multifunction devices, plotters, scanners |
| Networking | Switches, routers, firewalls, access points, UPS units, comms cabinets |
| Lab and research IT | Workstations, data-logging PCs, specialist research equipment |
| Mobile devices | Smartphones, tablets, iPads |
| General IT | Monitors, EPOS systems, cables, peripherals, docking stations, telecoms |

Certified Data Destruction You Can Evidence
Deleting a file or reformatting a drive doesn’t actually remove anything, and recovery software is freely available to anyone. Under UK GDPR the responsibility for that data stays with your organisation until it is provably destroyed, so we treat destruction as the heart of the job rather than a tick-box at the end.
Every collection in Norwich includes:
- Certified erasure to recognised standards (NIST 800-88 / NCSC guidance), or physical shredding where a drive must be destroyed outright
- A certificate of destruction for each data-bearing device, matched to its serial number, rather than one generic certificate for the whole load
- An unbroken chain of custody from your premises through to final processing
- Waste transfer documentation and an asset report for your compliance file
Hand that to an auditor and the conversation is over in a minute.

Getting Disposal Wrong Is Expensive
The risk sits with your organisation, not with whoever drove the van away.
- UK GDPR breaches can attract fines of up to £17.5 million or 4% of global turnover, and abandoning data-bearing devices is a recognised breach.
- The WEEE Directive places a legal duty of care on businesses to recycle electronics through authorised routes.
- The ICO has previously issued six-figure penalties where IT was disposed of without secure data destruction.
Computer Waste Recycling is Environment Agency registered (Waste Carrier Registration CBDU457512) and ICO registered, so you stay on the right side of both data protection and environmental law, with the paperwork to show for it.

Is Your Norwich Collection Free?
For most organisations, yes. There’s no minimum quantity and no requirement for equipment to be working, and we don’t add a surcharge for being out in the county. Whether a collection is free comes down to the volume, type and condition of the kit and where you are. If your redundant IT still holds resale value, we may pay you a rebate towards new hardware. And if a job genuinely won’t cover our costs, we’ll say so plainly and quote before anything is booked.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do office printers and copiers really store data?
Yes, most modern multifunction devices do. They contain an internal hard drive or solid state storage that retains images of documents that have been printed, copied or scanned, which can include payroll, contracts and personal records. We remove and destroy that storage, issue a certificate for it, and can collect the unit itself at the same time.
Is there a minimum number of items for collection in Norwich?
No. We’ll collect a handful of devices just as readily as a full office clearance, unlike providers who won’t attend for fewer than ten PC-sized items. Tell us what you have and we’ll arrange it.
Do you charge extra to collect from rural Norfolk?
No. We cover the whole county on the same terms as the city, including Great Yarmouth, King’s Lynn, Thetford, Dereham, Diss, Cromer and everywhere in between. Rural addresses don’t attract a travel surcharge.
Will you take broken or very old computers?
Yes. Equipment doesn’t need to work or hold any resale value. Non-working and obsolete kit is collected and processed through licensed, zero-to-landfill routes, with data destroyed first.
Does deleting files or reformatting a drive remove the data?
No. Both only remove the pointers to the data, which can then be recovered with freely available software. Certified erasure overwrites the data to a recognised standard, while shredding destroys the drive outright. Either way you should receive a certificate identifying the device by serial number.
What happens to our equipment after collection?
Data is destroyed first. Anything with life left in it is refurbished for reuse, and the rest is dismantled so materials can be recovered, giving a zero-to-landfill outcome that’s fully documented.
