What Is a Computer Recycling Centre?
A computer recycling centre is a facility that securely collects, processes and recycles redundant computers and IT equipment. A proper business-grade centre does far more than throw old hardware away. It destroys the data on every device, refurbishes or reuses equipment where possible, recovers valuable raw materials and keeps everything out of landfill.
The difference from a household waste tip is the paperwork and the security. A business centre gives you certified data destruction, per-device certificates, waste transfer documentation and a full audit trail, so your organisation can show it met UK GDPR and the WEEE Regulations 2013. For the day-to-day service, see our main computer recycling page.
What Happens to Your IT at Our Recycling Centre
Nothing goes to landfill. Every item that arrives follows the same documented route:
1. Goods In and Asset Logging
Each item is counted, checked and recorded against the list from your site, so we can show exactly what arrived and what happened to it.
2. Secure Data Destruction
Before anything else happens, every data-bearing device is erased to a recognised standard or physically destroyed, then certified against its serial number.
3. Testing and Grading
Once the data is gone, equipment is tested and graded to decide whether it can be reused or needs to be recycled.
4. Reuse and Refurbishment
Usable equipment is refurbished, which gives it a second life and reduces e-waste.
5. Dismantling and Material Recovery
Devices that can’t be reused are dismantled so that metals, plastics and components are recovered and returned to the supply chain.
6. Final Documentation
You receive your Certificates of Destruction, an asset report and waste transfer documents.
Data Destruction Comes First
At a proper recycling centre, data destruction happens before testing, resale or dismantling, never after. A factory reset or quick format does not permanently remove data, and under UK GDPR the responsibility for that data stays with you until it is provably destroyed. Computer Waste Recycling erases each drive to a recognised standard (NIST 800-88 / NCSC guidance) or physically shreds it, and every device is matched to its serial number on your certificate. For the full detail, see our data destruction service.

Computer Recycling Centre: FAQs
Do I have to bring my equipment to your recycling centre?
No. We collect from your site anywhere in mainland UK, so you don’t need to travel to a tip or drop-off point.
Is it free?
For most business collections, yes. It depends on how much equipment you have, what it is and its condition, and equipment with resale value may earn a rebate. Send us a list and we’ll confirm the cost before anything is booked.
Is your recycling centre registered and accredited?
Yes. We are an Environment Agency registered waste carrier and ICO registered, and we hold ISO 27001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and Cyber Essentials.
What happens to my equipment after collection?
Every item is logged, then data is destroyed first. Usable equipment is tested and refurbished, and anything that can’t be reused is dismantled for material recovery, with nothing sent to landfill.
Do you accept broken or very old equipment?
Yes. Equipment doesn’t need to work or hold any resale value. Any data-bearing parts are still destroyed and certified.
What paperwork do I receive?
A Certificate of Destruction for every data-bearing device, an asset report and waste transfer documents, so you have a complete record for your audits.
